This morning took place the official presentation of Hanshin's five rookies. As I have not talk about them since the article from Otcober 29th, here is a recap:
Draft n°1: Daiki Enokida (Pitcher).
24 years old. 179cm/83kg.
Received the number 13, former number of the pitcher Satoru Kanemura.
During the Asian Games in November, Enokida was the starter of the Japanese national team against China. Even though for him it was the first experience of this kind, his outcome was amazing: 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 hits, 1 BB, 4 SO.
Draft n°2: Shinta Hifumi (Pitcher).
18 years old. 184cm/86kg.
Received the number 36.
Since in Japanese his last name "Hifumi" is written with the ideograms "123", the fans used to joke about what his number will be. How is it?
Draft n°3: Masahiro Nakatani (Catcher).
17 years old. 184cm/85kg.
Received the number 60, former number of the young catcher Shinji Komiyama. (Komiyama inherited the number 39 from Yano, the symbolic catcher of Hanshin).
Draft n°4: Akira Iwamoto (Pitcher).
18 years old. 180cm/82kg.
Received the number 59.
Draft n°5: Fumiya Araki (Infielder).
22 years old. 180cm/75kg.
Received the number 58.
During this ceremony, the three Ikusei* rookies were also presented:
N°1: Tetsuya Sakaguchi (Infielder).
18 years old. 180cm/77kg.
Number 122.
N°2: Hiroya Shimamoto (Pitcher).
17 years old. 176cm/63kg.
Number 126.
N°3: Masaki Anada (Infielder).
17 years old. 180cm/78kg.
Number 127.

*Ikusei can be translated by "training". The players of this category have three-digit numbers and we can say that they are in "test period". They can be promoted as players in their own right (whether in the second team or in the first team). If after three years testing is inconclusive, their contract will not be renewed. This system is applied in teams of more than 65 players.
